Stableford

Stableford scoring that rewards birdies — and forgives the blow-up

Points for how you score relative to par. A disaster hole can’t erase the whole card the way stroke play can. Rounds keeps Stableford honest with live hole-by-hole scoring so points stay clear through 18.

Standard Stableford points

Common recreational scoring: double bogey or worse = 0 points, bogey = 1, par = 2, birdie = 3, eagle = 4, albatross = 5 (tables vary slightly by group or committee). Add points across the round — highest points wins. You’re competing to collect points, not merely survive total strokes.

Why groups pick Stableford

Stroke play punishes one water ball for the rest of the day. Stableford caps the damage — once you’re out of points on a hole, you can pick up and keep pace. That makes it friendlier for mixed abilities, charity days, and anyone who wants the round to stay social after a blow-up.

Gross vs net Stableford

Some groups play gross points off the card; others apply handicaps so net scores feed the point table. Agree which version you’re playing. Either way, you still need accurate hole scores — which is what a live scorecard in Rounds is for.

Stableford plus side action

Want a birdie pot or a head-to-head on total points? Layer peer-to-peer challenges on the same round. Live scorekeeping feeds both the Stableford total and the side bets. Settle in-app when you’re done — free for most features on iOS.

Worked example

Example two-hole stretch

Setup

On a par 4 you make birdie (3 points). On the next par 3 you chunk two in the water and pick up for a 0-point hole under your group’s max.

Result

You’re at 3 points after two holes — a blow-up that would have wrecked a stroke-play total just caps at zero here. The live card in Rounds keeps each hole’s score (and thus points) clear so the leaderboard doesn’t depend on mental math.
